Most thought the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare, had already survived enough criticism and legal challenges to stick around for a while longer yet. But in an interesting twist, a federal district judge ruled in Texas v. United States on December 14th, 2018 that because the individual mandate penalty was eliminated, the entire ACA was unconstitutional.

However, it’s not dead yet. The White House announced that the ACA will remain in place pending an appeal to the 5th Circuit, and perhaps even to the Supreme Court.
